Time for a Makeover…

…not for you, but for your out-dated furniture!

These are a few projects I have found that take an old piece of furniture and give it an update into a new beautiful piece. I haven’t tried one myself yet, but I can’t wait to! So if you have a worn down desk, table, or drawer that you’ve been thinking of getting rid of, go get some paint, and get creative!

Here are some before and after shots.

A few simple steps to follow when re-furnishing something:

  1. Sand it down
  2. Prime it with a coat of white paint
  3. Paint it your desired colour (once dry)
  4. Give the handles or hardware a new coat of paint where possible

Of course you have the freedom to do whatever you want with your piece, but I like the way this example used a decal to enhance the inside of the drawers and the interior.

Need Inspiration?

I checked out the blog Desire to Inspire and I really loved the beautiful interior design and conversion of the homes. The posts are very short and concise, just giving a brief summary of what the home is and maybe a bit of the inspiration by the designers. The audience is quite broad – really anyone who finds interest in the home as it is mostly pictures it isn’t too technical or hard to follow. However, it is still aimed towards those more architecturally inclined, or interior designers as an inspirational blog. The purpose is stated in the name of the blog, desire to inspire; which it does. I think it is successful in that aspect.

This blog is very accessible by many audiences. It is clear, concise, and very reader friendly. It starts with a quick summary and then the rest is photographs.

A picture really is worth a thousand words, and this blog shows that. I think if it was crowded with writing, the reader would have a harder time forming their own opinions on the space; and the spaces really do speak for themselves.

I loved the contemporary theme of the homes, and that they stick with the modern style. The site is clean and sleek looking which fits well with the style of design they have chosen.

This is a nice blog that has beautiful and inspiring contemporary homes. If you’re looking for inspiration, or just looking to dream, check it out!

Here’s a few photos of the first post I read about a converted church that caught my eye:

Reinventing The Pallet

I have come across so many different ways to use pallets in Interior design. They are a great way to add some inexpensive personal touches to your home. They also add that rustic country feel I love.

So in no particular order, here are some fun projects using old pallets.

Pallet Shelves

This shelf is very simple. The first picture shows a pallet simply hung on the wall, the second is for those who don’t mind getting there hands dirty to stain it.

Pallet Seating

This is just one example of some fun and original pallet seating. You can get as creative as you want with this easy project. It is simple to personalize with a coat of paint and your choice of cushions. The example given above would be perfect for theatre style seating in your home. You could also use them as a bench in the house, or outdoors. This project is so versatile and it has endless possibilities with what you can do.
